My shoulders were sore! There are a few wonky spots in the middle when smooshing the big quilt through my machine got a little tricky. I quilted this one myself, and it had been awhile since I'd done free motion quilting on a large quilt like this. Wouldn't this be a cute memory quilt made with a pieces of clothing or special fabrics? Or a signature quilt where people can sign their names in the larger squares. The blocks sew up fast using Diagonal Seam Tape (here's a video of me using it to make a heart block). I chose the colors in this quilt out of that tiny 30's floral print, mostly using near solids because it's all I had on hand. This block would even make a cute quilt on it's own! If you don't already own one of those patterns, or you prefer full instructions just for this quilt, I wrote out a full pattern for Heartsy you can find here or at the link below. When I really get excited to begin a new quilt I put every bit of myself into it. Using a walking foot or free motion foot, quilt through all layers of the quilt sandwich. Lay your backing fabric down first with the right side of the fabric down. You can just lay out the entire 7/8 yard and trim it down later if you have the space to lay it out. This should be about 30 inches x 39 inches. This patchwork star quilt finishes at 40 x 40. Her tutorial comes with complete cutting instructions along with helpful step-by-step photos. Once you’ve finished the top, add a layer of batting and the quilt back. Step 1: Cut your backing fabric to be approximately 2 inches larger on every side of the topper.
